I recently setup my wireless network with two linksys products, both are 802.11g. One is the WMP54G and the router is WRT54G. I set them up fine but i noticed that I lag in servers while plaing games aout every minute or so. I pinged my router continuously and found that it would constantly be <1 or 1 but every minute, it jumped to between 800 and 1200. Same thing happened when I pinged yahoo.com. Now I'm assuming that this is the card telling the router "I'm here, conect to me" or something. Is there any way around this? It gets really fustrating when playing games then all of a sudden you lag for 5 seconds then go back to normal. Any help is greatly appreciated.

you could try disabling "Broadcast" in the router config... Or you could look at something better than linksys.

Sounds like XP's zero configuration issue. Classic example anyway. use your card's utility if you have one that will work with XP or install SP2

I wasn't able to find this option in the config...any other ideas?

SSID broadcast beacons will not affect your latency or throughput. It's a non issue

Windows WZC however can cause a performance hit on one minute cycles. So, address that if your running XP.

I'm a total noob at this so bear with me.

How do I go about addressing windows WZC? Also, what is windows WZC?

Windows Wireless Zero configuration utility. Are you using XP? If so you can type services.msc from the run box to bring up your services MMC snap in. Disable the service from there. Only do this if you have a utility from your cards mfg that will work with XP. Win2000 also has a WZC utility with SP4 I believe.
