I am going in to clean up a wireless network that is already installed and I am having trouble getting computers to move their connection from access point to access point. Whats the easiest way to set it up so the clients move easily from access point to access point and maintain a decent connection. The wireless points they have to use are Cisco Aironet 1100's and a few dlink dwl-8200ap's...any advise would be appreciated.

No...wanted any tips before I started digging in to it...was going to set those all the same but was wondering what I should do for channels or if there was a better way?

You need to avoid same / similar channel overlap. In practice on a 802.11b/g network there are only three really usable (non-overlapping)channels... 1 , 6 , and 11

You need to arrange your AP's in such a way that you do not have two AP's on the same channel within range of each other. Otherwise you'll have interference in the area where the signals overlap. There's lots of sites out there that discuss the topic in detail... Google for "802.11 avoid channel overlap" and I'm sure you'll get more info than you want.

Otherwise, do what delmorte said. Make your SSID's all the same. If you're not using encryption, you need a good beating... :) If you're using some sort of shared key, make the keys the same... Or better yet, look at switching to a solution that doesn't require shared keys to be maintained on the individual AP's.

Thanks gonna check it out...and yes they are running encryption however wep isnt worth much...the last tech told them nothing else would function accross all their different branded equipment, I mean who would start with Cisco and then add dlink. I plan on trying to up their security but I want to get a handle on this and take care of it in one shot.
