Wireless network problem

guys, weve been having a LOT of problems with our wireless in the past few days. it was fine for like 3 months, and now in the past 3 days, it is acting up.

setup:

3 computers -- 1 wired, 2 wireless. One of the wireless' is vista-run, one is XP. Roadrunner connected to a Linksys WRT110.

now heres the problem:

If me and my sister laptops are BOTH connecting/connected to the same network, the network will fail. It will drop it's transfer rates, sometimes all the way down to 1 mbps, or just completely drop altogether. From there, it will disappear from the network list. It doesn't matter if it's our network, or a neighbor's. If she is connected, and i try to connect (or vice-versa), it MIGHT work for a minute, but it will drop us both and neither of us can reconnect UNTIL the router is restarted. Sometimes it won't even let the other connect, it will continue endlessly trying to establish an IP address until the network drops.

the problem doesnt seem to have any bearing on whether or not the *wired* computer is connected/on.

What is going on?????????????
 
I'm not familiar with that model of router but it seems like the problem is between one or both of the laptops since it happens with more than one router.

So I'd start by making sure all the WiFi drivers are updated.

It couldn't hurt to update the firmware on your router just to be safe.

What model laptops do you and your sister have?
 
mine is a dell e1705, windows xp media center edition

hers is a toshiba satellite something or other, vista home

ill try wireless drivers...
 
updated my wireless drivers, updated router to latest firmware

works fine for my computer now even in protected mode, earlier it wouldnt work in protected

but still, as soon as she tries to connect wirelessly while im connected wirelessly, the network stalls, drops, and then the router requires a reset before anyone can reconnect.

what the hell is wrong

sounds like a router issue?????????????????????
 
Is your IP's set to manually or automatic? If they are set to automatically obtain an IP address then set it to manually.

I don't know if this helps but it's just a suggestion.

yes they are automatically obtained, im not sure what ip to enter manually.




do u guys think automatically filtering mac addresses for my and her computers will work??? or no

ive tried almost everything else...
