Can I buy two routers and use one was the router and one as an acess point? Example... Buy two WRT54GX or Belkin Pre_N routers and connect one to the cable mode and the other one will be used as an access point so that I can connect the computers in the second floor through the switch on the access point to get internet access.

Yes you can.....as far as I know that Linksys model does not have firmware that supports "access point" mode (yet...hopefully they will soon), but I know the Belkin Pre-N router does....in the web admin you can flip it between "Router" and "Access Point" mode.

I never liked Belkin routers before...but I've setup quite a few of the Belkin Pre-N units...and I'll tell ya, I'm VERY impressed with them.

I've done a few Linksys SRX installs to, and have had a great experience with them, but I'll state that the firmware is still a bit...lacking in features, hopefully it'll mature some more, as the performance of them is fantastic. You can do a work around to get the second one to work as an access point, disable DHCP on the second one, assign it a different LAN IP than the first one, and uplink it using a LAN port. But since the Belkins support this natively...I'd say snag a pair of Belkin Pre-N units.
