wireless keyboards and mice.. how far?

You know those base units that actually plug into your keyboard and usb ports on your computer.

How far away can those be from the keyboard and mouse before you have issues?

What connection does it use? infared? wifi?
Can the base unit be behind a wall, or under a desk and the signal will still get through?
 
Depends on the make/model.
I've had some garbage ones that would only go a few feet, others that go across the room. Some are RF, some are IR. Just gotta look for reviews on specific models...
