Hi,

The Logitech mx3100 has the mx1000 mouse and a wireless keyboard. In the SetPoint software it is possible to enable some kind of encryption for the keyboard.

How is the security in this?

probably medocre at best.

:tinfoilhat: do you really think anyone would try to tap into your wireless keyboard signal?

LOL true dat... :D

How close are you to people that you 'THINK' would try this? They only have a range of about 10-15ft, and ANYTHING in the road blocks the signal NOTICEABLY.

I thought that radiowaves could go trough walls? If you have a car which you can lock/unlock remotely this can be done from inside the house and the car is outside. This is also radiowaves.

It is because when you have neigbours upstairs downstairs to the left and to the right all of them can "hear" the signal.

So say you go to your homebanking then all the neighbours can listen and get your password. Just an example.

I wonder why Logitech doesn't claim anything.

Personally I don't think it is so secure because when typing on the keyboard the letters should appear pretty fast on the screen. Depending on the computing power for the encryption scheme this would take some ammount of time. And I don't believe that the keyboard running with two small batteries (I think) has much computing power.

So there is a tradeoff between speed and security. Speed is not actually a parameter since the delay must be very small.

Just some thoughts

I own 2 kb/mouse sets(logitech) with the mx700 mouse and 2 cordless trackballs, and the range is MAYBE 15 feet... MAX, and if I go into another room(even though I am roughly 10 ft away) I cann't even move my mouse reliably...
