Wireless keyboard not recognized at boot up

Unsure where to post this - I don't think it's a hardware issue but rather a mobo/bios/usb issue. Anyway, here goes:

Trying to replace a PS/2 wired keyb/mouse with a Logitech MK710 Wireless keyboard & mouse (w/ one unified usb receiver). Initially w/ only the wireless receiver attached got "keyboard failure". So tried to get "past" that by having both attached (wired PS/2 & wireless receiver) & also enabled "USB Emulation" in BIOS (the only reference to usb in there) & now they both work at the same time - that is, I can type on either keyboard interchangeably.

Great......except I have one OS on HDD 1 & another on HDD 2 so at boot I need to have a working keyboard to select which OS to boot to. The wireless MK710 only functions after Windows is up. So, I don't want to have to keep the wired keyb only to do that OS selection & thus have 2 keyboards taking up space.

Wondering if there is a DOS driver or other tweak that would get the wireless keyboard to function before Windows is loaded (& also not have to have the wired keyb plugged in just to avoid "keyb failure" error!).

Any ideas? Thanks
 
What motherboard is this on?

Have you tried plugging the USB receiver into different USB ports?

I've never had a problem with USB keyboards, I currently use a Microsoft USB wireless keyboard for one computer and it works in the BIOS just fine. Try a different USB keyboard, perhaps.
 
Idk the mobo - some random stock Dell pre-installed one. I tried in more than one usb port but perhaps not every single one. I can give them all a try...
 
That's a flaw with the Logitech "unifying" receiver: everything is software-based. There's no way to sync the keyboard to the receiver at the BIOS screen.

Aaargh. I was afraid of that. What an (unnecessary) pain. I might network the 2 PC's together w/ a router so can share the same internet connection. Never done it before but I doubt even on a home network you can "see"/control a 2nd computer through another to utilize the same keyboard? (Other than VPN or Synergy type thing)
