Wireless Keyboard + Mouse combo reception?

I've been trying to find a perfect wireless keyboard + mouse combo for my gaming HTPC, but I've gone through three sets and always have an issue. The first two were RF, and after a week or two, they seem to lose their range and I will get mouse skips, and it isn't battery related - I've changed the batteries many times. They third was a bluetooth MX5000, and that has even worse issues - delay that makes games unplayable. Also, the MX5000 is very bulky, which I don't want.

Can someone recommend a wireless solution that works well? I don't understand how an Xbox 360 wireless controller can work perfectly anywhere in a room, and yet all of these products I have tried have so many issues.

I use a Logitech keyboard + mouse combo and I've never had an issue. Batteries last 3-4 month for mouse and about a year for the keyboard.
I had reception problems with the keyboard only once (because of a new WiFi router I think) but I just turned the keyboard encryption system on and that solved it.
I have to say that the keyboard is a little sticky after 4 years...
