I'm using a Linksys WMP-300n V1.0 in my computer
and a D-Link DIR-655. Both are set to wireless N.
why am I getting such low connection???

I also have a Dlink high gain antenna hooked up to the router. It's a condo and the router is about 25 feet away. No closed doors.

What's up with that???

HELP

Have you tried changing the channel? I also live in a condo complex, and most everyone was either on channel 6 or 11.

I've noticed the 'meter' getting stuck before, at least in XP. Plus, it says 11Mb which is b, not n.

Try switching to G, since n may be buggy and you'll never need that much speed anyways. You can also try putting your antenna in a coffee can and pointing it towards the AP.

it's definitely N, I have B turned off...

And the antenna is about 18" long, won't fit in a coffee can

It's a small place, it should have enough range for here....

it's definitely N,

But when you mix brands...sometimes peak speeds don't work well. Hence..take 15-20 seconds and flip it to G just to see if you can get 54. 54, IMO, better than 11.

Any proprietary "turbo" like modes enabled on it too?

This is all starting to piss me off...

11mbps on a Linksys N card and a Dlink DIR-655 is unacceptable.

My little Acer Aspire One gets better connections than that.

I've tried switching to G, but then I realized that my card is N!! DOH!!

Can't test it that way.

I've tried everything, nothing works to let me see even 100mbps in my network.

I know that as far as the web goes I'm limited to the speed of the servers and traffic at the time, but this is LOCAL...

I'm also having a very difficult time transferring files from my Acer (XP Home) to my PC (Vista Ultimate 32)

I'm trying to copy a 4gb file and it's saying something stupid like 7 hours...I'm getting transfer rates of like 100kbps!! WTF is that?

Google turned up nothing (that I haven't already tried).

Please help me!!

I'm questioning a few things here: why the high gain antenna? you're 25 feet away.

802.11n is backwards compatible with 802.11g, so testing that out shouldn't be a huge problem. Set the router to a lower speed and the wireless card should connect.

Any way to test the components separately? do other devices get a fast connection to the router? does the computer connect well to other routers? are there many other networks visible in the area?

Ok, stop stressing out, this is not that serious of a thing. What you need to do is understand that Linksys and Dlink are two different companies, they use different technologies to reach N, thus you're running into issues.

There are a few things you can try to see if you can boost your speed.

1st. Go to the wireless settings and make sure your channel bandwidth is set to 20/40, If it is not, set it to it.

2nd, make sure N mode is selected, if that doesn't work, select G only, since your 2 devices are not really compatible.

Also, you can try reinstalling your wireless adapter and setting your routers settings to default settings and go from there. But really, you'll probably have to go and buy a compatible wireless adapter to get N speeds.

This is exactly why im waiting until nov. 2009 when N will finaly have a set standard.

Until then everyone has thier own idea of Draft N. and is trying to make an early buck promising compatibility that isnt there, firmware updates to standardized N if/when that happens, etc.

This is what happens when you are an early adopter for a standard... in this case a draft standard at that.
