Wireless interference on laptop?

My friend's laptop is a Compaq Presario 1200 which seems to run ok, except that the speakers let off this weird static noise everytime bandwidth is being used. I was wondering if anyone has had similar experiences, and if so, if there's anything besides replacing the wireless card (it's a DLink) to fix this problem. Thanks

Eric

Edit:
It sounds just like the problem I found on google here:

any ideas?

in addition, I'm thinking about getting this laptop as a strictly hw/coding laptop, since from what I've seen, you can't get a new laptop for less than $700 + tax. It's a compaq presario 1200xl with 156MB of ram w/bag, ac adapter, NIC and wireless card and he's initially offering $300. However, do you guys think this is worth it? After all, it has been already a few years since he's had it so I'm not sure how long these things can last for. Any opinions/experiences are appreciated :)

my altec lansing speakers pick up 802.11b interference...light static when bandwidth is passing.

my grandparents compaq has a horrible clicking noise under same.

but..most laptops with built in wifi shield the speakers.
