So i've been having this problem for about a month now...

I have a HP Pavilion dv9000 laptop, It's about 2 years old.

The laptop used to have wireless capabilities (built in) but about a month or so ago it stopped working. I think I may have accidentally uninstalled the wireless capabilities. When I try to search for my wireless nothing comes up. If I go to device manager it doesn't show up in the "network adapters" tab. I can't enable or disable wireless because my computer doesn't even "see" that it has wireless. I just reformatted my computer to see if that would help, but no luck. I also tried installing drivers from the HP website, but that did nothing. I think that about covers it.

So i'm asking if there's any way to reinstall my laptop's wireless capabilities. Also, I'm not a computer person, so explain in simplest terms would be very appreciated. Thanks!
 
I would try to re download the drivers from the HP website from another computer, then try to install them on the laptop. Though if the card doesn't appear under devices, even as an "Unknown Device" it might be dead and would most likely have to send the laptop in.
 
Hi- I checked HP's downloads for the dv9000, and it looks like you have a broadcom wireless card? (There are a lot of model numbers listed after the dv9000, so I looked at the first one) Are you running Vista or XP? If you are sure you have downloaded and installed the correct driver from HP, you might try opening the cover for the wireless card compartment on the bottom, and making sure the card is fully seated in the mini-pci slot. You could also try to remove it, boot up once, shut down, re-install it, reboot and see if Windows now sees it. Be careful -- removing and reinstalling the 2 antenna wires can be a pain.

I'm running Vista on this. And about the HP downloads, yeah i think there's four different dv9000s, i tried them all but no luck.

Some people I know that understand computers said that it's possible it's just a hardware failure. If it is, then I'd rather not send the PC back. I did it last year because it over-heated (I've got a cooling pad now).

My brother recommended getting a usb adapter or one of those internal network cards. I want to run it by you guys (my brother says this is the best place for computer info) just to make sure I won't be wasting money on one of these.

even if you uninstall the wireless drivers your computer should detect it the next time it boots. What you need to check is if the laptop has the wireless disabled. Sometimes laptops have a switch or button that manually shuts off the wireless to save battery.

When it is shut off, then the wireless will not show up on the OS
