Setting up a wireless network here at work, having some problems with the PCMCIA cards in the laptops, even when getting Excellent signal they will refuse to connect unless really close to the router (Linksys 11b) the two desktops running PCI cards have no issues. This is an old building with lots of junk between router (upstairs) and laptops (downstairs) so would I be correct in saying taht even though the laptops are detecting a decent signal from the router that the PCMCIA cards themselves are not broadcasting a signal strong enough to complete a two way connection or is it something else?
Now if that's correct can I instead of going and getting an access point just setup an Ad-Hoc network between the laptops and the desktops (downstairs also) so they are able to have access to the internet and network or is that unworkable?
