Wireless disconnection problems with new WAP

I originally had problems staying connected with a few wireless devices in my house with a five year old TRENDnet WAP. I figured it was time to upgrade to 11N anyway, and upgraded to a TP-Link TLWA901ND. It worked great for a few weeks but now my laptop disconnects from the wireless every 15-60 mins and has trouble reconnecting for a little bit. At first this problem was isolated to my laptop but now a desktop I have on the wireless is also having the same problem. That desktop has a almost brand new Netgear WN311B.

Both systems are on Windows 7 64bit. The AP is in the basement, the desktop on the first level, and the laptop upstairs (all show great to excellent signal in Windows)

What could be the problem? Why is my new AP showing almost the same problems that my old AP was? Can interference be causing this?
 
try changing the channel it is on.

You can run a program like Vistumbler to see if there are a lot of other AP's in the area on the same channel as you.
 
InSSIDer shows me as being the only AP in my immediate vicinity on channel 1. I'll see if its the microwave causing the trouble but I'm trying to figure out why this has become so troublesome recently. We're in the process of getting rid of all 2.4Ghz phones in the house to see if that will help. Anything else I should look for/try?
 
Another bump. Still not sure what I should be looking for to fix this. Some days the wireless works fine while others I have trouble. I'm starting to suspect my laptop is also having trouble because it has cooling problems which will require me to reapply the CPU paste (which will be annoying)

What kinda laptop ?


And have you changed the default channel on your wap ?

I use a Gateway NV59 (gets super hot, will have to reapply CPU paste soon) with a Atheros ,AR5B93 chip (which I will upgrade the drivers for tomorrow) and I changed the WAP to channel 1 from 6. I

One last bump. Had the cable people come out and check the lines which did show a weak signal, but I'm still confused as to why my wireless disconnections sometimes. Ill try a new channel and moving the AP to see if that helps.
