Hello all, needing a good wireless gamepad for my pc with fairly decent range. Like to be able to play from the couch, PC is about 15 ft away.

I have a PS3 gamepad (hooked up via usb) and I do have a couple xbox 360 wireless controllers if that helps. No bluetooth for my pc.

Was looking at this http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX31011

Could I get my wireless 360 controller to work easier? Using windows 8.1

Thanks!

Either buy this for the official microsoft wireless 360 receiver.

or buy a chinese knockoff which still works but requires going into the device manager and manually changing the drivers to the official microsoft ones.

Supposedly this is an official microsoft receiver but still not 100% on it.

Thanks! Just ordered the knock off one!

Should be here by the 23rd, in time for Batman!

Thanks again

No problem. The knockoffs work just as good as the official microsoft ones, just not plug and play.

Glad you helped him NickJames and I want to add, "Stay away from that Logitech controller if running Windows 8.1." The drivers suck and take all of your time to get it to recognize and get the rumble feature at the same time. If by the grace of God you get it to work, you have to repeat the installation all over again for every time that you turn it on. I have that $30 paperweight on the floor in a dusty corner.

Why not just get a cheapo $5 bluetooth dongle for the PS3 controller.

Thats what I did. Was easy to setup. Got mine on Amazon very cheap.

He said he wants to sync multiple controllers and I find the 360 receiver much easier to work with than syncing multiple PS3 controllers over bluetooth. I did that once, was not fun.

Got the Logi 710 wireless myself. Running Win7 Pro but had driver issues as well. Had to roll back the Logitech Gaming Software to older version which doesn't support my G15 K/B and had issues with proper detection, etc. So I uninstalled the drivers, unplugged the receiver, rebooted, restored the LGS for the G15 then plugged in the receiver and let Windows install drivers by itself. It detected it as an Xbox 360 controller and it now works perfectly.

I bought the MS controller and dongle combo 3 years ago and it still works great.
Mainly bought it since they came out with a black dongle, I had purchased the white one a few years earlier and that one still works too.

On Win 8.1 you can get it to recognize as a XBOX 360 controller permanently also. But the rumble feature is permanently disabled also if you take this shortcut. So the only way to get it work properly is the Logitech software that works maybe once everyday if you spend 4 hours installing and uninstalling it.

I'd use the wireless 360 controllers, and if the signal is too weak, use a USB extension cable to put the receiver in a better spot.
