Wireless Causing Logon Problems

At work I have a IBM Thinkpad w/ integrated Centrino Wireless that I have been battling for some time now with a very irritating problem. Whenever the user goes to logon in the morning (just my luck it's the CEO) it will hang for 2-3 minutes, then complete the login and work perfectly fine. After much cursing and head scratching turns out the wireless is the culprit. As soon as I disable it in the device manager, everything works like a charm, otherwise, the logon hangs. Let me give you the brief rundown of what I've done:

  • Ran a Scan disk - Multiple Times
  • Booted into the Windows Recovery Console and ran a CHKDSK from there
  • Did a Repair install of Windows & Re-installed SP2
  • Update the Bios on the Laptop
  • Updated the chipset & wireless drivers to their latest version
  • Performed any resolutions to slow logons that I could find online

Those are the highlights anyway, I was just wondering if anyone had this problem or had heard of it and what they may have done to fix it.

You sure its just not the wireless device once logging in trying to find and connect to the closest WAP. That would probablly take 2 or 3 minutes.
 
Some wireless adapters have an options, "Authenticate prior to windows logon." See if you can find that option and it might fix your problem.
 
I supposed I should mention that this is when logging on to a wired network, at our company there is no wireless access (he has it for when he travels). I'll take a look for the authentication bit, hopefully that will do it.
 
Is the machine running IBM Access Connections?

If so, is there a wireless profile set up to be the default?

If so, create a profile for standard DHCP Ethernet (assuming that's what you have in the office) and make sure it is the profile applied at boot time.

It's probably hanging up trying to connect to a wireless network that isn't there.
