I've recently moved from a house to an apartment. In the past, I had my main rig wired into my WRT610n router and ran laptops/iphone/tivo/etc via the wireless. Well, I've recently moved into an apartment and the only logical place to set up my computer is not anywhere near the cable input. Long story short, I'm thinking I need to go wireless on my main rig.
1. Am I going to notice much of a difference by going wireless? (I do a fair amount of torrent downloading, online gaming, and even some Wrld Comm.Grid stuff from time to time).
2. Any real-world difference between pci wireless cards vs the usb cards?
3. My usual route when I'm looking for something new is to hit the egg, search on what the other nerds are buying in the "top sellers" area (assuming they've already done my homework for me.....lol) and shop from there. Assuming wireless will be satisfactory, I wonder if there's any appreciable difference between some of the more popular options:
(my mobo is an asus maximus formula and I have empty pci slots to use......)
1 $55 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833127218
2 $48 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833124342
3 $11 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833315091
Thanks in advance for any input.
........alternatively.....and in addition to what I posted above..... the apartment complex has an open n-band network but the signal isn't QUITE strong enough to reach the tivo in my bedroom (but it's strong enough to reach elsewhere in my place). Is there a way to configure my router as a repeater....to capture and boost the "free" network so I can just use the apartment complex's network or do I need to go buy a dedicated repeater/access point?
