I look at a lot of these case mods.. and most people have a pretty good grasp on their cables and wires and everything in their comps. Anyone have guides, or tips.. I can never seem to find a good place to stick stuff, and I can never manage to make my cables stay where I put them. anyone have any idea's for me?
 
how about you post up some picks of your current wire job and we'll assist you in making it cleaner! :cool:

Tips: Route behind mobo tray, gut the excess you don't need, and a lot of zip ties. Look in that thread for inspiration.

Ok. Redo the big fat ATX, and wire it over the mobo, not the way you have it now. Zip tie it down. Zip tie whatever you don't need together, and throw it into the unused 5.25. Unless you need those extra ports in the back, undo those two brackets.

What do you mean by wire it over the motherboard?

I intend on getting wire sleeving. It's just a matter of actually ordering it. Where can I get some from. I found a kit on SVC.com But I want ot make sure that it's worth it before I get it
 
It looks like you have two main problems, and both are easy to fix:
1) You have lots of extra wires. Like Bbq said, tie 'em together and get them out of sight.
2) Your ATX cable is monstrously long, not to mention that your motherboard has the power connector in a horrible spot. If you're feeling adventurous, I would suggest shortening the ATX cable (cut a section out of the middle of each wire, solder the two ends together, heatshrink it). Another idea is to mod the power supply so that the ATX bundle comes out the bottom instead of the front of the PSU. I did that with my PSU (primarily because of the ATX connector placement on my MB), and it really helped with the wire management. I'll have to take a pic and post it.

Other thoughts: you might consider zip tying the front-of-the-case cables together (power, reset, HD LED, power LED, USB ports, etc) to neaten up the bottom of the case. Once you've taken care of the extra wires and that ATX cabling, we'll be able to see your hard drive cabling.
 
Step 1: Remove any wires that are don't go anywhere, like the USB bracket at the bottom.

Do that, then take another pic and we'll go from there.

I feel like i've made a lot of progress.. the hardest part is the massive bundle of cords that I have stuck between my CD drives.. a whole bunch that I don't use.


Is it bad for a PSU if you open it up and actually remove cords? cut the wires and put caps on or something?
 
There's nothing wrong or dangerous about getting rid of extra wires, as long as you do it properly. I've done that with the "aux" connector on a few PSUs. You can even desolder the wires from the PCB, and you won't even have to worry about covering up exposed ends of wires. Be careful doing that, though--you don't want to bridge traces that aren't meant to be bridged. But it's not hard.
 
I might have to give that a try. probably do it on an older PSU before I do it on my new one.

I'm going to get a kit to wrap all my wires too.. I think that makes them look a lot nicer, redo the main power one and then do all of the others.
 
I agree--you've made a ton of progress so far. For dealing with all those extra wires, though, you can probably just bundle them together and tuck them out of the way somewhere.
