Does anyone know if the online portion of this game is still alive and kicking on the ps3?

I loved old wipeout games, just finally got a ps3 thought about getting this but not if theres no one playing it anymore.
 
Single player is worth this price of admission by itself. And yes the MP is still alive, and it is very, very well implemented.
 
I second the comment above regarding single player. I haven't played more than a few online races so I can't tell.
 
If you're not in the US, the online is great. The last time I tried to find a game, I didn't find one person in the US hosting a game. I don't know how bad the lag is on an overseas hosted game.
 
Not buying this game -> go directly to failure of life zone, do not pass go, do not collect $200.

Edit: Just found it on Amazon and there it is $19.99 so yeah i guess it is half off. Will be picking this up.

was looking at getting this. noticed though that the wipeout hd is 10 bucks off but the whole bundle is only 5bucks off. that kinda blows and i don't see anywhere to just buy the update pack
 
ooo, downloading demo now....

off topic, amazing how much faster the PS3 using wired or wireless. it's like night and day and doesn't kill all other devices now.
 
I totally sucked at the demo level... If you miss any of the boost things you are lost.. I think my best placement was 7 of 8 out of the 4 times I played it.
 
I gave up trying to buy this game after an hour because sonys online store through the ps3 wouldn't accept my credit card details. Argh soo frusterating, is there any way to buy it online or something without having to buy a damn PSN Network card?
 
More stuff on the 3D update, looks like they are having to drop the resolution and framerate to 720p @ 30fps pull it off :(

"WipEout HD was originally 1080p at 60Hz: obviously a good foundation to start from. Making the 3D build of this we had to go for two 720p images," says Simon Benson.

"The advantage there is that that's less than 1080p, so we're all right there pixel-count wise: we've got some to spare, we're asking less in terms of pixel processing. But we were fairly geometry bound on WipEout HD. Because it was 60Hz we could just drop to 30Hz and in actual fact, that was it. There was no more work to do. That worked. It took very little time getting the game into 3D; there were very few problems with WipEout."

Not exactly, I knew there would be a loss, I just didn't realize it would be this much.

I knew there was double the screensize to draw for both the left and right images, so a reduction of framerate by half is not surprizing. What I am surprized in is that they had to reduce the resolution as well, thou now that I think about it some more, its probably due to frame buffer constraints, rather than fill rate.
