I've run into a problem with Samba where I can no longer access files on computers with Windows XP SP2 installed. Samba has no problems seeing the individual computers but access to it is not allowed.

I had no problems accessing these computers when SP1 was installed. I have to retrieve files for work. :(

I've tried stopping the firewall on a SP2 computer and that doesn't help.

Any ideas on how I can use my Linux laptop for work again?

Is Samba on your laptop sending encrypted user names and passwords or cleartext?

If you are sending cleartext, you need to make a registry change on the XP boxes so that they will allow cleartext passwords. (Ick!)

OR

You need to configure Samba to send encrypted passwords.
