I'm dual booting vista64 and windows xp. I don't recall what really happened before this, but now when I try to boot into my xp, the OS just logs off after logging in. This is not unique problem, as many people have encoutered it. It would be a much easier fix if I only have xp. But what do I do since I'm dual booting? I don't want to overwrite the MBR, and miss with my booting options.

Using safe mode doesn't help of course.

A repair XP reinstall will overwrite the MBR I think, so what do think I should do?

That can happen if the drive letter changes. From your vista you should be able to modify xp's registry. Microsoft has a kb about it somewhere

I have seen this problem many times with systems with only XP installed. In each case I did a windows repair and it fixed the issue. of course in your case this may not be the answer.
