I'm kicken' around the idea of maybe picking this and running on my main comp..

I am running XP Home right now , but I will be giving this disc and key to my church for one of their computers ..so I will need to by a new liscense anyways and so thinking about jumpen to the 64bit platform .

Just wondering how you guys that are currently running this OS like it ..and what are some things I need to prepare for ...?

I am a gamer , and am currently playing Chronicles of Riddick, NFSU 2, Halo, all the Steam games, and a few others ...

I also use Open Office and Microsoft Office stuff , as well as Paintshop Pro 7..

I'll google around as well as check responses to this thread about virus threats/protection for 64bit windows and spyware stuff ..

Just looking for some [H] input ..thanks!

:)

I'd check all your key apps/games against NT Compatible or someplace like that.

Also, be willing to accept that few hardware vendors have drivers ready. Creative, in particular, is pissing me off with their two-versions-behind clusterfuck they call x64 drivers. Yeah, they work, but if I didn't want EAX support, I would have just used my onboard sound. I'd buy an X-Fi to get better support, but guess what - no drivers for it, either! Both major video chipset vendors are up to snuff with their drivers though.

Performance is exactly the same. Everything runs great.

All in all, you can't go that wrong now, and it's only going to get better.

Oh, and prepare to be lambasted for not searching. Search, damnit!

Run the trial, the only major problem facing xp64 is driver support. It's pretty much exactly like XP, you may want to wait for vista.

..to list a few ..so if nothing else , perhaps others can see this thread and get to other links already posted quicker ..

lots of good info in those links .. and my bad for not being more thorough in my search on these forums ... :)

Im using it on my main PC.. It works perfectly for me. In most cases its a bit faster than my (same pc) was with XP Pro 32 bit. Of course all my hardware does have drivers for XP 64 so that is definitely something you need to check first..

I dont think its worth it yet, even the drivers they have released are limited, no hauppauge support was the big turn off for me, the 64bit bandwagon is moving pretty damn slow.

I had problems with some drivers. Some folks just don't make 64bit drivers for their devices. It is very annoying. I went back to Windows XP 32bit.

i honestly think winxp64 is a waste of money/time, if in the future i am going to buy a 64bit os, that is going to be vista 64bit!

its crappy in terms of driver support, and half of your programs will make little errors here and there, i noticed with DVD shrink the compression ALWAYS looked crappy...just wait for vista

Although WinRar is fast as a motherfucker...
