Hi, My girlfriend has an EMachines T2625 . She is away at school and I bought her a WinTV Radio board. The board has the 878 chipset. It computer seems to freeze at random times, I mean total lockup, no keyboard response, no mouse, no 3 Key Salute. The only way to fix it is to press the power button. Processor usage levels out at about 50% with the WinTv 2000 app open. I have all the latest drivers and the latest WinTV app.
Just wondering if anyone could help a guy out.
 
Have you tried the common sense stuff like checking for spyware and other apps that may be interfering with it? Are the latest drivers installed for everything on the pc?
 
Computer is completely clear of virus and spyware. I installed the latest Via 4 in 1 drivers and still experienced system lockup. I am going to try installing a different video card and see if that has any effect. I dont think it will but I am out of ideas.
 
Did you try installing this TV card in different PCI slots? It might be a (hardware) resource issue.
 
IRQ? See what other media-based programs/hardware she uses. Try to go into BIOS and manually change the IRQ or change PCI slots.

Gotta go with GeForceX on this. Also Hauppauge has excellent support. I had a problem and E'd em and they got back within 24 with a solution.
 
Next time I am over at her dorm I will try switching the card to a different slot. Right now it is in the closest slot to the AGP slot.

Her PC has a total of 3 PCI slots, one has the TV Card, one has her Modem and the other has a Soundblaster Sound Card. Would changing the order of the cards really make a difference? I will give it a try anyway. Thanks for the help everyone.
 
Usually placing one near the Video Card would mean problems (well that's what I noticed anyway). But wow it seems like all of the PCI slots are taken. Try taking all PCI devices out and use only one and change them accordingly until they work (clear out your CMOS/BIOS to default prior to doing this).

The PCI slot next to the AGP slot usually shares an IRQ with the latter slot. Since both the videocard and TV card work with a lot of data, this could definitely cause a resource problem.

Try swapping the modem and TV card.

Just kidding :) onboard video might change things a bit, but it still doesn't rule out a resource problem.
 
Thanks for the help everyone. I will hav to take a look at it when I go over to her dorm on Tuesday.

I thought the link to emachines worked but the page it brings you to is useless, that is why I didnt mention the onboard graphics.

I will get back to you guys on Tuesday.
 
With the wintv card what are really bad in my view but i owen a few of then mainly using wintv-hd at this time on windows 2003 server..

But the point i am trying to make is on my old 600mhz computer this hd card works find using it intel 810i chip set with it shaired video memory. There are four things i would check first one would be do you have the newest directx installed second is there a dvd programs to decode video this is need by wintv but not noted on there pages. try anyone like powerdvd the free trial will be enought becuase once installed the driver will stay around after it runs out. Next would be check and see if you chip set it updated knowing that the old E computers used intel go and download there new drivers check the bios for bus mastering and check the other settings. Next what os is she running that plays a big factory on what to do next. But check all driver because if a bad sound driver or video will mess everything last but not least you can change the way it overlays the video to the screen if you cant get it to work any other way.

I've played with a few WinTV 2000 versions, if the software isn't *exactly right* it will hard lock the system.

Finicky little bastards... and I agree with Elledan, swap your modem for the TV card. I have similar issues on my wife's Compaq.
 
I finally got over to her dorm to try a few things out. FIRST- I checked all of the resources on her computer and there did not seem to be any conflicts. Every device had its own unique IRQ number. I tweak one of the settings on the software for the card and am waiting for my girlfriend to tell me if it freezes again. If that tweak doesnt work there are two other options then I will try moving the card to a different slot.
