You forgot to read on... Itanium's dont use x86 arcitecture, sure it will support them because Microsoft doesn't want to make two operating systems instead of one. If they say it is optimized for the Itanium then they get more sales. It is truly ment for the A64 and will work with the Athlon better then the Itaniums because they will still have to emulate while the A64s have x86-64 arcitecture.

There is windows XP 64bit and windows Xp for 64bit extended processors. They are different beasts as far as I can tell. Notice that the public version released today for testing runs only on an AMD 64bit processor.
 
Itanium has an OS already. This one will work WITH it, but not really on them, other than in emulated mode.
 
Oh well, Intel needs to be pampered atleast from the benchmarks I saw with the Prescott.

Something fishy here. If you click Trial software now Available you get that - if you click their idea of the "top 5 reasons" you get built for itanic. and this was interestingly posted quickly after intels anouncement of demoing xeons with amd64 (or similar) architectures.

well, if you control majority of the PC market, why the hell not? to think you guys would be atleast a tad bit thankful for Microsoft to allow you guys to play your games, rather than to crapily emulate them onto Linux...
 
That is quite fishy MTB2Live,Live4Comps. Although they could have easily enough done a copy & paste of the old 64-bit Windows and just forgot to edit it all the way... Just a thought, but I think I might have to good look into that.

Well, its true that intel controls the most of the market. But they have no cpu solution available for a 64bit OS...

If I had a mayor software company (Microsoft for example...) and i would be producing an 64bit OS and began to distribute its BETA on the internet for testing... Knowing that the only people who could test it now are A64 and opteron owners...

Why would i make that one of the top five reasons to get this new OS to be that it supports ITANIUM architecture...?

And at the same time not mention anything at all about the a64 or the opteron, which is the only platform that will support it know.

This feels really fishy people...
 
my guess is that they most likely just cut and pasted the info for the first xp 64bit release (for Itanium), thinking that they could save some time and not write something new.
