I have 2 computers. I can't find the xp home disk on one of my computers but i do have the legit home cd key and 1 xp pro cd install disk. CD key wont work=/ What happens when it comes down to crunch time and i run out of time to register? Will the computer just not work?

All winXP home CDs are identical, so it's not like you have to use the original if you lost it. I usually just copy the i386 directory to my system so I don't have to pull out the CD if I need drivers or anything (the i386 directory contains all the Windows install files).
If you have a legit license I don't think there's any problem with using a differend disk (or even making a copy, but IANAL). Anyhow, I googled this: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/using/howto/gettingstarted/guide/troubleshoot.asp which recommends trying another disk, and if you can't get access to another disk and you didn't back your's up, there's also a number at the bottom where you can probably get a replacement. Note that you'll have to be able to show that you have a legit copy and there will probably be some replacement charge.

Actually, not all discs are the same... a retail disc wont work with an oem key and vice versa
Right, it doesn't have to the be the exact same disk, but it does have to be the right version (pro, home, OEM, retail). If the CD key isn't working you don't have the right disk. You can legally copy a friends CD and USE YOUR LEGAL KEY. The key and the license are the legal parts, not the CD.

Look at the bolded words, friend, and you'll see that the answer is in the question. You can't use a Home key to install from a Professional disk.
I think that's exactly what people were talking about (except that first post), I know I was. My point was that I don't think it's a problem to copy another disk if the original wasn't backed up. Obviously an XP-Pro CD can't be used to install XP-Home, and I dont think anyone is claiming that, but if there is access to another XP-Home disk, it'd be usable.
I must have forgotten about the retail versus OEM differences, but now that I think about it, hulksterjoe's got to be right. I don't actually have and OEM CD for XP, so it's not something I've tried.
