windows xp pro won't boot fully

ok i have a problem...when i turn on my computer.. windows starts doing it's little thing ..well it comes to a screen where it asks if i want to start in safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with cmd prompt, or normal mode..well when i choose one, it goes on to the screen where the little blue bar is going across that little tube thingy...well it just stays on that page and it won't ever open to windows.. i've tried alot of stuff...but can't figure anything out..
 
No you can't reformat from the bios but you can reformat using a boot disk or bootable windows disk. Reformating seems like your only option. If there is anything terribly important on your hd, use it as a secondary on another comp and copy all the stuff you need, then reformat.
 
Do a repair install, it will leave most of your files untouched.
 
Like Stu stated do a repair. Boot from the XP>CD. Tell it to do a new install. At some point not to far into the setup. It will see your old install and ask if you want to repair. Say yes.

This should leave your old programing intact. But it will remove any of the OS tweaks you had done.

I'm just going to say that I used this for the first time earlier today after I hosed my install with some virus testing (I let curiousity get the best of me :p )

This worked perfectly to let me back up some data to a seperate drive by copying files that I could not copy using the recovery console. It worked flawlessly, and from what I saw, you an add much more functionality such as adaware, ghost and many more. This is a great tool, easy to make and I suggest that everyone should have a copy handy for those pc emergencies.
 
I've gotten all my IT guys using this. You can fit the Bart on a CDR that's shaped like a business card and have it handy at all times :D
 
first i really don't care about backin anything up on a disk ...it's a custom comp built for gaming ...songs ...and editing dvd's ...most of that software can be reinstalled anyhow so i don't care about all the other crap...but when i the xp disk , and i want to repair ..does window have to been open or do you do it at the beginning when it's telling you the frequency and how fast your processor is
 
I had the same problem, but was interested in keeping my data from the HDD.

M4tt, if i boot using the Bart disk, can i use my DVD burner to backup files?

Also, if i do a system repair, what exactly will i lose?
 
I didn't see DVD burning specifically listed on the site but maybe you can. I'd suggest loading the NIC drivers and copying via cross over or switch.
 
When you do a repair install, it basically does a copy install of WinXP, so it will make your pc into a base WinXP install, but without deleting anything you may have on the pc, such as photos, programs, music, that will all still be there. You will have to update your pc again and you will need to install your chipset drivers again, but other than that, it does not delete any data.
