Is there any good software to do searches in XP ?

I need to look inside databases for a word or string and of course the crap search in xp
sucks big time.the one in 2000 would do it but not xp
I took a drive and put one file on it....put in a string inside the document and told it to find it
NO MATCHES FOUND....what junk

again any program I can buy that will do searches inside documents ?

Did you use the "Containing text" box? I just tried in a VPC install I have and had no problem finding "6.0" within about a hundred files.

I currently use Google Desktop search, works great for most of the searches I usually need. I have also had very good experiences with Copernic desktop search.

You should really wait to upgrade to XP until they get all the bugs out. They rushed it out the door.

Just tried the free Agent Ransack and it found the string with no problems.
I assume that an MDB file is binary and the new microcrap search can't read it.

EIther that or the string is stored in Unicode so that

Code:
This is a string.

is actually stored as
Code:
T h i s i s a s t r i n g .

And what do you mean MS's "new" search. XP is now almost 7 years old.

Maybe the windows desktop search toolbar? ANNOYING to VNC into a machine here, and find that thing taking up half of their task bar.

It was included in an update and our boss left it, or didn't see it.
