Windows XP Pro explorer error

Recently, i have been getting a certain error from windows explorer when i browse or open certain files. The files do open, and i see no corruption whatsoever, but explorer itself crashes.

Here is exactly what it says:

Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.

I recently added a new Hard drive to my system, but i do not think this is the problem, since i get the error when i browse on the HD that ive have had for some time.

Im thinking this is a software issue, not a hardware one. If this is true, i would like to correct it in another way than reinstalling OS (its annoying as hell to reinstall all the programs, some of which i have will take a long time).

Are thumbnails enabled? Are there graphics in the folders you're trying to view?

Have you tried unplugging the hard drive you installed to make sure thats not the problem?

well, i found a hotfix and i think it resolved the problem. I'll post back if it didnt. Thanks.

Argh, apparently it didnt fix it. Randomly, explorer crashes (keep in mind this is explorer, not internet explorer).

Does anyone have an idea to resolve this problem?

I had exactly the same problem and format/reinstall didnt fix it

I ended using Autoclave and wiping with 0´s the hard disk and starting fresh, now the computer has been without a single crash for almost 3 months
