Windows XP partition problem

I downloaded Windows 7, and I know that I have to partition one of my harddrives. But all of my harddrives are already partitioned. I have a C: and a D: but I can't partition them. When I right click on them in Disc Management (the app that comes with XP) the only options I get are explore and stuff. 'Delete Parition' is grayed out. So is their any way for me to partition a partition so I can run windows 7? I really want to try it out, so if there is any other way for me to use, that would be awesome. Thanks!
 
The XP disk manager does not shrink partitions.
You can download free gparted Live and burn to a CD and boot to it and resize, delete, or create partitions. http://gparted.sourceforge.net/
You should always backup your data before manipulating partitions.

Dual booting is easier if you put the new OS on a separate hard drive as opposed to on a separate partition on the same drive as your existing OS.
