Windows XP NETWORK INSTALL

I was wondering if it was possible to do a network install of XP onto an embedded system that doesn't have a CD drive, but a formatted HDD and an ethernet port.

Am I right in thinking I can access my main box's CD drive by sharing it and accessing it via the embedded system through dos and running the XP installation from there?

Simple answer yes. I have done it before so I know it works. Not quite sure how to access a share in DOS.

it is real fun. you get to load the dos driver....then do a "net use *device* *drive letter*"

I'd go to bootdisk.com and see if there is already a networked boot disk out there. I've made them before with a ghost wizard.

i remember doing this in school a few times

we copied the entire windows disc onto our server in the classroom, then used a network boot disc to access the server, then we used the xcopy command, copied the contents of the cd onto our computers, then ran the setup

Right, thanks for the help - I'm sure this would be enough to get me started... but

the aforementioned embedded system does not have a floppy drive... I think I'll just do the install by installing the hard drive in my main system, formatting it and installing XP - then just put it in the new system.

p.s bootdisk.com did have the right stuff!
