For some reason the clock on windows xp keeps loosing time, at first I thought it might have something to do with the cmos battery but to my surprise it happens even when the system is powered on. Help.

Thank you

But if the system is on it shouldn’t happen should it?

is the only solution to replace the CMOS battery?

Yes it should happen, because the system power does not keep the time, but the cmos battery does, and yes the only solution is to replace the cmos battery

Edit: and I was actually asked this question on my A+ Hardware Cert Exam....

Are you sure you have set the correct time zone? When the clock updates, it will change your time to the time zone you set. My freind had that problem, turns out he had it on like -8 when we're on -5.

edit: But yeah, if it's not losing time strictly by hours, it's most likely the CMOS battery.

I had this issue, so i turned off it the "Automatically synchronize with an Internet time server" under the Internet Time tab

I've always had a problem similar to this. For some reason my clock always runs 7 minutes fast. No matter what I set in my BIOS or how many times I sync the time with microsoft it ends up going to almost exactly 7 minutes fast in a short period of time. I just like to say it's because my computer is fast haha.
