I have a ton of studying to do in the next 3 weeks and now my computer decides to crash.

When I boot the computer up it gives me the error " following file is missing or corrupt" winnt/system32/config/system .

It then tells me to put in the winxp cd and choose repair. That would be nice if I had a winxp cd but I don't so I'm sitting here up shit creek without any TP.

Is there anything I can do besides finding that cd?

mmm...no :(

I fixed a friend`s laptop with the same problem, the recovery cd did not fix it, we ended with a full clean install of windows and all his stuff.

pop your XP cd in boot of it, then it will ask you to repair. Skip this part and another repair screen will appear. Repair at that point, this will essentialy replace any corrupted or missing files. This should preserve all you installed progs but you will need to repatch windows.
