My computer will recognize both my 150GB raptor as SATA master5 and my 500GB WD under SATA master6 in BIOS. However, windows will only recognize my raptor in which my windows is installed in. I'm trying to use my raptor as my master and my 500gb hd as my slave. The shute(?) isn't set up at all on both of them.

Also, I just found out windows did recognize my 500gb under system, it just won't show up under my computer. Any ideas?

Well, there is no real master/slave configuration for HDDs. SATA is a point to point connection. Not that it matters.

The drive you want to boot from should be in the first SATA port which may not be marked well on the board's PCB. Disconnect the other drive until you find out where the Raptor belongs. Then attach your storage drive to an adjacent port and you should be all set.

So basically my Raptor(master) should be plugged into "SATA Master 1?" Then my slave into "SATA Master 2?"

Well every board labels it differently, but whatever the first and lowest number SATA port is called is what you should plug the Raptor into.

you could also try right click ->my computer ->manage->Storage->disk management

Yes, I'm glad the SATA abolished the whole Master/Slave thing, which was beginning to upset a certain group of people :rolleyes: . They were proposing Primary-1 and Primary-2 or something just absurd. <3 SATA

I also plugged in my other SATA HD and my IDE HD and my computer recognized both of them except my new SATA HD. Wtf is going on :mad:

I've tried switching cables with my DVD burner and same thing happens. DVD drive is recognized but my HD isn't

This is what comes up under syste/hardware/disk drive:

Raptor: Primary ATA channel
my new SATA HD I want as slave: Secondary ATA channel

~~~~~~EDIT~~~~~~~~~~
The software that came with my HD recognized it and set it up for me. Came down to such an easy solution too :x
mmm ...never had any problem with that , can plug my boot and storage drive in whatever sata port i like and it boots right up. Even if i change the ports it doesnt matter , maybe its just my mobo but never any problems at all .:D
