Windows wont detect my native resolution

I recently bought a Samsung 2333t 23'' 1080p HD monitor. Windows Vista 64bit's display settings do not give me the option to set the resolution to 1920x1080. The highest i can go is 1600x1200, but windows selects 1600x1024 by default. The only way i have found to set the resolution higher is to go into my nvidia display settings and select 1920x1080 there, and hit apply. Only after that, does the windows display options show 1920x1080 (and has it selected) on the slider.

If i change the resolution from windows again (to a lower setting), my 1920x1080 option goes away. Whenever i change the resolution in a game, it will revert my desktop resolution from 1920x1080 (selected from nvidia) back down to 1600x1024. And every time i restart windows, it goes back to 1600x1024

It seems as though windows fails to recognize i can display 1080p. i need a way to force this thing to never go under 1080p

I have:
windows vista 64bit SP2
nvidia gtx 280 dual SLI. (have tried with sli on and off) newest driver
i7-920
Samsung 2333t 23'' 1080p monitor connected with VGA cord (converter attached to card output)
Monitor's drivers are generic PnP, auto update says drivers are up to date

got it, guys.

Samsung does not list this specific monitors drivers on thier page. so out of desperation i picked one at a random with the same basic model numbers (2333) even though the item codes were different.

whadaya know, 1080 is now listed and all my games detect it.
