I just got a SATA drive, kept ide plugged in as a secondary storage drive, enabled the sata controller and set the sata drive to boot first. i installed windows fine, but when it tries to boot, i just get a black screen. no windows loading screens ever come up. if i unplug the ide drive it boots fine, but as soon as i plug it back in it will not boot. i have a wd 120gb sata drive and a 160gb wd ide drive on an abit is-7 with bios revision 20. how can i get both drives working?

*update*
figured out that it is enhanced mode causing windows to not boot. if i make the bios run in enhance mode windows will not boot no matter if the ide hard drive is plugged in or not. i can however, plug in the drive, and select the bios to run in sata only mode, and it will boot, but obviously i cant see it in windows, nor can i see any of my cd roms. any help?

Classic case of RTFM. Your motherboard manual should have a nice chart showing you how to configure the BIOS for each possible set up of drives. I know the Abit manuals do. Check that out.
