Should I get Vista 64bit or could I just run Windows 7 RC1 or even 32bit XP until Windows 7 releases?

Never used a 64bit OS before - any help would be appreciated.

I don't see much point in dropping any money on Vista at this point. I'd just run RC1 until Win 7 comes out officially, unless you've got some vital application that you know isn't going to be compatible. As for the difference between 64 bit and 32 bit, the only thing really worth noting at this point is that 64 bit will be able to see all of your RAM, whereas 32 bit will top out somewhere around 3-3.5GB depending on your video card.

I disagree, i would go with vista.....

I have enterprise edition and with it i am privy to using sp2 via the volume licensing site.

SP2 is going to be a nice speedup for vista....it isnt quite win 7 yet with its speed (i have used both extensively) and the UAC is still what it is, but win 7 still isnt fully supported yet and it has its own quarks

You can try use trial Win 7 64-bit on your pc and see how perfoamce with your current pc build.

Vista is about RIP when Win 7 is out this year.

What everyone else said. No reason to not at least try Windows 7, since it's free for almost a year. If for some reason there's some odd issue holding you back, you can always buy Vista if you have to then, but it seems unlikely that you'd need or want to.
