Windows useing HardwareAccell from graphic cards

Just curious if ne1 knows or heard of when our 2d desktops are going to use hardware 3d acceleration for the menus, icons etc. Heck maybe there is a program out there to do it allready for windows ? Anyways, any info is appreciated.
 
Ok thanks I heard longhorn would support this 3d feature but wasnt for sure.
