Windows USB going haywire!

My front usb on my case, when my iPod mini is connected Windows says Unknown Device..when it was working last week before i formatted. on the same port i pluged in my controller and windows reconizes that and installs fine..when i plug the ipod in the back windows says its a mass storage device...then it works..but i dont want it in the back from the short cord, and my front should be working. Ive tryed Uninstalling the driver, the USB drivers, re applying the USB 2.0 driver...everything. Does anyone know how to fix this?!?
