windows update doesn't work anymore; it says "some settings are managed by your system administrator".

i tried 2 or 3 versions of fixit but it didn't restore windows update.

i can't restore it with gpedit; it says "mmc can't create snap-in".

i did a chkdisk and that turned out fine.

my hard drive's smart status is healthy.

i have win 7 x64 home premium.

i will be thankful for anyone's help:)

If you want to change your settings on Windows Updates manualy (not from registry) you need to delete added subkey under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU to leave only the "default" subkey.

I would scan for Malware using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, Adwcleaner, and Hitman Pro because a lot of malware will attack Windows' ability to update and patch security holes. Look for any suspicious items in add/remove programs. Uninstall Java completely and if you need it, wait until you get this sorted out before installing the latest version. Home Premium lacks the local group policy among other management consoles so you will have to dive into the registry.

Also try this:

1. Click Start, type gpedit.msc and press Enter.

2. Locate to Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Internet Explorer.

3. Double-click “Security Zones: Do not allow users to change policies” on the right pane

4. Choose “Not Configured” and click OK.

5. Restart the computer and test the result.

You can also delete the registry key “Security_HKLM_only” under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet

Settings directly.

thanks everyone. there was no malware and i already tried the no auto update =0 dword trick.

idk what the hell is wrong

edit: found something else in the registry; going to restart now and see if that did anything

edit 2: it worked
