windows smp client questions

I know I get better ppd out of linux... but its simply not an option for me... I want to run the smp client becuase it should give me better ppd than a single client, and for what ever reason. running dual single clients would never finish within the dead line... (that was wierd.. but any way) (i think this had something to do with vistas virtualization, fighting over the cores, but im not sure) however, i find it very annoying haveing a dosbox open on my task bar... i know.. im picky

so what im looking for is a way to run it 'hidden' not as a servis, becuase i know it cant do that (yet) (unless there is a way to force it... ) i figure there has got to be a way to start the program without it showing on the task bar, i look in task manager and i see its running fah.exe, and the core_a1.exe's yet, the core.exe's are not on my taskbar..

any tricks???

 
SMP is a high-performance client that's meant to be run 24/7. If you're somehow missing deadlines with work units that have 60-day deadlines, you're not going to like SMP with it's 48-hour deadlines.

Let's fix the problems you're having with the standard client first and then move on to SMP.

What happens exactly? What are your system specs? I never heard of a dual-core processor not able to complete the WUs of two simultaneously run standard clients before the deadline. I had a dual 1.1GHz PIII that would complete two standard WUs in 6-8 days. A machine like the one in your sig should have no problem regardless of the OS you have running.

 
If you don't want to see it on your taskbar, google for a program called "trayit", it will move it over to the system tray and be out of the way.

yeah , its the machine in my sig, i cant for the life of me figure out why it wouldnt finish out 2 single run clients, i installed one standard command line client, and set its affinity let it run and shut it down. looked at the config file and took notes (copyed it)... uninstalled it, and reinstalled it as a servise, and copyed the part over form the config that set the affinity worked just fine. try to install a seconed service, set its affinity, and they would constantly fail WUs... uninstalled the seconed one, and the first one started working again... changed its affinity.. worked just fine.. so its not one core or the other. i looked under task manager and noticed the affinity option was greyed out so left the first one set as it was, and installed the graphical client (not the graphics (ati) client), and set its affinity.
they would both run both peg the cpu, but never make any progress. (monitered with f@hspy) they would always sit at 0% stoped the service, and installed a second graphical client. same thing (0%)... task manager affinity was still greyed out regardless if i set it or not. gave up on that and ran just a single graphical client (because i dont like haveing the program open on the task bar) decided i wanted to ramp up production any way, but like i said.. i dont like the whole program bar thing.. only becuase i have a tendency to close stuff that is left open. the smp client is humming along nicely now

yup, made sure one of them was always 1, and the other was always 2. regardless of which version i have installed. didnt make any difference... like i said, smp client is now just fine, see if it can complete a WU befor the deadline , if it cant then ill worry about the other issues. ( i have reinstalled windows since i was first trying the dual clients.. it might make a difference)
