Searched the archives and didn't see anything.

I'm a student working on Windows Server administration with a Windows Server 2008 VM and some clients. For some reason or another I lost the password to the Server VM after I changed it due to it expiring. (I turned off expiring now..) I tried booting to Trinity Rescue Kit and used the winpass tool successfully (sort of) but when I rebooted I couldn't get in as local administrator.

I've since gone to a backup of the VM image for my work but I was wondering.. has anyone used a tool before to reset passwords on Server 2008? I'd like to share what I find with students and the professor.
 
It's a domain controller although I'm curious about both situations.

I understand I can't reset a domain admin password with a password recovery utility. I'm trying to reset then login as the local administrator.
 
You can't reset a domain account from a local admin account. In fact, how the hell did you get a local admin account on a DC in the first place.

Reset the password from another domain admin account
