Hey-
I was wondering- is Windows Server 2003 a good day to day operating system? Is it faster, more reliable more compact then say- Windows 2000 Pro or Windows XP Pro. If you did not have a high end system but rather a system with a CPU below 1 Ghz would you reccomend using Windows 2003 or what other operating system?

This has been discussed in-depth on this board before and no. It's XP with server capabilities. Just go with XP. After all the crap you have to disable and enable to make the performance equal to XP, it's just not worth it.

Windows 2003 is not a good choice as a desktop operating system. It has a lot of lockdowns designed for server security that get in the way of daily usage, and it has a lot of services designed expressly for server use that take up resources better used in other ways.

XP Pro SP2 is a far better choice.
