Heyas

A buddy of mine wanted to upgrade his old server (P3 class) so he went with the following:

Asus P4R-800V Deluxe
Intel P4 2.8E Prescott
Crucial PC3200 - 2x512
Generic 400 Watt PSU, one fan exhausting
A floppy
Two hard drives (120GB and 200GB, both Maxtor - tried it on both the RAID controller and on the normal IDE controller)
One Optical Drive, CD-ROM
One 80mm case fan in the side panel
Stock cooling on the CPU
Mid size tower case

Now, his problem is this. With HT enabled, he can install Windows XP, no problem. Things run, they jump, they play - all is well. But if he tries to install Windows Server 2003, one of two things happens: 1) The install won't finish, locks up (only happened once), or 2) Get into the OS, freezes solid - Water in Antarctica style. No blue screen, no error messages, and nothing in the Event Logs. It can happen from 2 minutes from login to 10 minutes. Doing something, doing nothing. Never takes longer than ten minutes though. Shut off HT and the machine runs fine.

He's tried using one stick of RAM, swapping the RAM to the other slots. Not working. The store he bought it from suggested that the prob may be his PSU or the RAM, but I can't see that being the case - I would have thought XP would exhibit the same behaviour, it's not like the OS can consume more power.

Any thoughts? Thanks for the help in advance.
