What is the easiest simplest way to copy a windows boot partition to a new boot drive.

My hard drive started to click a bit over the weekend so I bought a new one. Used the wd drive copy software(dos based program, took forever to copy) to copy the drive over to my new drive. Disconnected the failing hard drive and turned the machine back on and it was loading windows 98(I am using XP). Said there was a couple missing files, command and a couple of others but I can't remember.

Plugged the old failing drive back in and check out the new drive and it looked like it copied all of the folders but it still won't load XP on the new drive when I turn it on.

I don't think it copied the registry but I could be mistaken.
