Windows Media Player quirk

Someone help me because I feel completely retarded even making this post. However, it's happened to me on several of my systems and it drives me nuts. I have no idea how to get rid of it. It has happend on my XP machine running Windows Media Player 9, and now it's doing it on my Vista machine running Windows Media Player 11. What is this black bar at the bottom, and how do I get rid of it?

No matter how I resize the player, the black bar remains. I'm thinking maybe the "corporate skin" is messed up?

Yes ... but this has happned on my XP laptop which is not widescreen. Where are you going with this?

Nevermind ... I finally figured it out. It turns out Lyrics, Captions, and Subtitles was ON.
