Windows Loading - Restarting/BSOD

Some times when I boot up my PC it reboots my Win XP at the Windows Load screen, with the blue load bar thing. Today it gave me one in the form of a BSOD, although too fast to read. The thing I've noticed about these reboots is they seem to happen once I've installed software the previous day or boot. This doesn't happen with all software. For example, I went days without installing software, then I install Dawn of War, and I get the problem. When I first got this PC I got it after installing Ventrilo on one boot, UT2004 on another.

I don't see where the problem is coming from - I run 'last known working config' or go to system restore through safe mode, and each time and it works perfectly and my system will go back up. I can then install software and it'll work fine. It hasn't happened to me when I've not installed software, so I'm assuming that is the problem. Any help?

The only thing I can think of is sometimes when software installs it changes Windows load up files. Is there any way to check a log to see what and when failed on these boot ups?

Disable the automatic restart on critical errors. Right-click my computer, properties, Advanced tab, startup and recovery settings, system failure, uncheck automatically restart.

Post the STOP message, any file names, and the 0x00000000.

You can also check the event viewer and see the logs there.

Okay, I forgot to uncheck the automatic restart but I seem to have found disk warnings from when I started up my PC this morning (I got another BSOD/Restart and fixed it with 'last known good config'. There's about 20 of them so I'll just post the earliest one (in words).

Link.

Run scandisk, the HDD's manufacturer's tests (located on ultimate boot CD, link in sig) as well as memtest86+ for several hours (also on UBCD).

If clean, replace chipset drivers.

Good luck.
