Hey guys. If anyone knows a something about HPC, how to set it up, and what makes it different from say ESX that would be great! Thanks!

Waffles :p

Seriously, the reason nobody posted is because your post is too cryptic and too generic to get a idea what you want. ESX = Virtualization ? HPC = High Performance Computing ? We don't see what these two have in common. Are you talking about clustering ?

DC = Distributed Computing, which is not precisely the same thing as clustering. This better belong to the servers or the networking sections.

TO clarify, it would better be off in the Multiprocessing System SubForum found here at http://hardforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=12 depending on your needs (clustering and so on)... We also have networking section which is great for some of the HPC, OS may be good for the ESX issue as well. I tossed in the Multiprocessing System SubForum as it pertains to both of these world IMO... But :D why don't you join us in the meantime for some good crunching?

Not to get all technical, but in the purest academic technical sense of the term, clustering and distributed computing are one in the same. Beowulf is the same principle as what we're doing, just with a pile of centrally located nodes. :D

But back to the actual question at hand, HPC is a bit more involved than grabbing a quick howto off of a forum. And if you don't know the difference between ESX and HPCS, it might be a tad over your head.

I'm aware that from a pure academic view, it's the same indeed but I'm talking more about the DC forum here where 99% of the people come for folding and WCGing, not for talking about clustering and general distributed computing.
