I'm trying to fix a friend's computer. It is a compaq and has XP Home on it. Problem is someone tried to do a defrag on it and ever since then it restarts after the loading windows screen is about finish. I can get into it in safemode and have tried doing system restores but its not working. is there anything else I could try? thank you

yea try a repair installation. not recovery console, but install windows, then hit 'R' for repair installation.

I wouldn't do that if I was you. If it's XP Home, I'd run a repair using an XP Home CD.
