I have a folder with a ton of videos in it, when I go to this folder via Windows Explorer, my CPU usage jumps and stays at 100%, even after I close out the window. Checking taskmanager it shows explorer to be the process pulling up all the cycles. The folder is in details view, so its not trying to cache the thumbnails or anything. Does anyone have any clues on how to fix this? I just re-installed Windows XP a few weeks ago.

Hey check out this thread they offer up some suggestions regarding a similar problem they have 100% CPU Usage

Basically they are say it could be a corrupt video file.
You should also run a virus scanner in that folder, just to rule out that possibility.

I actually found there is a reg hack to fix it. I should have saved the web page. But I did a few Google searches for "Explorer using CPU" and there were a number of returns, but I finally found some with actual working answers. Its supposedly due to the way windows handles the video files when they are currupt, by removing the registry key it no longer has that conflict.
