Windows Error: Frozen & says "Preparing Network Conn." - any ideas on how to fix it??

So I have a Windows error... it goes into Windows (sorta... not really into desktop mode by past the black loading screen) and it gives a msg - preparing network connections. I tried taking out the network card and even doing safe boot... won't work.

I tried installing an XP Pro upgrade, but it won't let me access the files in the doc and settings directory for the old user.

Any ideas??
I just need to access the documents on the old user. I put in another hard drive and windows loads up fine

If you have a version of Windows running, especially XP Pro, you can take ownership of the folder and access the files. Or, you could boot from something like BartPE and copy the files off to an external drive or a networked drive.
