Windows boots slow.....

just built a computer and ever time it boots it takes 3-5 min. I have instal all the drivers (havent did the updates yet) and updated the bios and I get no beeping noise and the diginostic bracket says things are well.. THe configuration is:

AMD 64 3000+ (939)
MSI NEO4 NF4
NEC 3520A (IDE 1 Master)
Lite-On CDRW/DVD Combo (IDE Master 2)
2x512 OCZ Value Ram
200gb SATA Diamond Max 10
EVGA 128mb 6600GT
WinXP PRO

After the post, it goes to a blank screen for 3-5 min then it loads. SOmetimes it load fast then other time u loads slow.

Also it says it only running in single channel. I read the manual and put them 2 chips in the right slots. (green)Does anyone think it the Venice Core thats doing this? I checked MSI's website and they dont have a BIOS update for the Venice cores but the pc still boots.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Have you entered the BIOS setup and checked all the settings? You can look for a "Fast Boot" option, and enable that. It will bypass memory checking during boot.

Yes with the MSI board its called quick boot and its enabled. Also my ram doesnt seem to want to run in dual channel either.

RAM needs to be in the dual channel slots specified by the motherboard. If it's still running slow, try resetting the bios back to default settings and running Windows in safe mode. Also, make sure you have the correct SATA drivers installed because I know Windows installation takes forever on my Raptors, but it takes me 5 sec to boot to my desktop.

Well it's a long shot but maybe it's set to boot from the network before booting from the hard drive and it's waiting for that first... It's kind of unlikely since most of the time you'd at least see something instead of a blank screen but check the boot order anyhow. Good luck, that sounds like a serious pain in the butt!

yes it is what??? set to boot from the network or the memeory is in the right slots??

If its set to boot from the network/lan and your not on one, turn it off..

-RTFM to find out which slots the RAM needs to be in to run in dual channel.

yes it is and also when I try to install SP2 it hangs...

I thought mine system upgrade to SP2 froze also, But realized its not just takes a long time to install, well for me at least. I tend to let it upgrade for a while while i watch tv or something.

Hopefully you were able to fix the single channel RAM problem, because they have a nice little chart here:

Put them in 1 & 2 or 3 & 4.

As far as your boot times, well..

-You could have bad RAM. Run Memtest.
-Could be a problem with your HDD. Run the manufacturer's diagnostics.

Did you do a clean install of XP Pro when you setup the machine?
